I have a XP PC that has a mapped drive (P:) on a Windows Peer to Peer Network. When I start up the PC it is unable to Map the P: Drive.

If I go to My Computer, the P: Drive is there with a red cross on it. If I double click on it, it opens up the P: Drive and everything is fine.

Why is this happening? Can I force Windows to retry connecting to the mapped drive automatically?

When you mapped it, did you check the box for "reconnect a logon" ?

Yes I have

The fact is, the P: drive is there in the network drives only it has a red X on it. Like XP had a problem connecting to it

The only time I see this happen is when the remote share becomes 'unavailable' for some reason. That reason could be because the system was rebooted/turned off or went to sleep/hibernation or some other power saving function.

Datamanic,

It really is not a problem. The first time you make an actual reference to the drive it will reconnect.

I agree it is annoying. Delete the map and recreate it. This usually sets things right.

Use msconfig to make certain there is no LASTDRIVE statement.
