I am very excited to have Xp installed, however, XP locks with SB 16 PCI Ensoniq card installed. As soon as XP boots and prompts me for my password, I enter the password and the PC locks up. CTRL_ALT_DEL does not work, I have to cold boot. If I remove the sound card, XP boots fine and fast. If I enable the on-board sound (EPOX board) XP still locks. With no sound, XP loads fine. I have downloaded the latest drivers for the SB Ensoniq card and installed, rebooted, and still locks. I went back to WIN ME and then decided to give XP another chance. Any suggestions?

My PC configuration is:

EPOX EP-7KXA Athlon ATX MOBO
AMD Athlon 550
256 DRAM
nVidia TNT2 32mb Video card
SB 16 Ensoniq PCI Sound Card

Frustrated in PA,

Chris

I am by now means a programmer, but I had this problem on my XP machine when I first put it together. It's possible you have an IRQ error. I tried a number of different sound cards and finally found that after trying a couple different PCI slots, it worked. Hope this helped.

Thanks H2Omobius! I'll give that a try and post the results.
