This is strange and just recently started when we upgraded our domain to 2008 r2. Our XP laptops connect to the internet just fine when in the office. If they connect to a wireless network outside the office they cannot get to the internet at all. The windows 7 clients have no problems at all. Here is the kicker!
When I remove the laptop from the domain....it can then access the internet. I am at a loss, anyone else encounter this?

Sounds like the domain is pushing some kind of Proxy or gateway configuration that overrides the Wifi DHCP config.

Have you checked the configuration of the machines that can;t access the internet, and made sure it is correct for the network they currently connected to?

What does ipconfg /all say about the configuration when connected to a public or out of office wifi?

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

ipconfig shows all should be well, it is assigned an ip address and dns etc is all set and no errors occur connecting to wifi.
I think it is some policy but have no idea where to check. It only occurs on XP and started when the domain was upgraded to 2008 R2

check internet options to see if proxy settings are set locally. you may also want to consult the image you are using to see where these policies are set.

As Degerdi says check IE's proxy settings.

Does this happen with other browsers?

Can the laptops resolve and ping internet addresses such as google.com?

I believe I figured it out. I created a wireless polixy for XP in the domain's default policy. All is well now.
