XP Laptop Hangs on New Network

Hi,

We have a laptop that works fine on it's own network, but as soon as you introduce it to another network (be it 3G with a VPN or on another customer's network), the machine hangs for about 20-30 minutes.

During this time the CPU is pretty much 98 idle and there are no apps running.

As soon as you unplug the network, the machine jumps into life... Plug the machine into it's own network and it works perfectly.

This is really strange and is beginning to drive us nuts!

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated! :)

It a different IP address range and it's trying to get a IP. do you have it set for (get IP Auotmaticaly)?

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

The laptop is set to acquire an IP automatically, but it should not hang for this amount of time. The machine is completely unresponsive.

Plus, if the machine was looking for a DHCP server and could not locate one, it would assign itself an AIPIA and would then only try to find another DHCP server every 5 minutes.

The machine seems to be dependent on it's "home" network...

Did you check it's not set to slect a certin IP, if the home network isn't available.

There is no alternate IP configuration settings...

PS(Computer is on a corporate MS2K/3 network, not home network)
