Hi everyone, stupid XP PRO is playing up again.

I tried to install a new network card (netgear fa311 rev-b1) and put it in a pci slot. the card was recognised, but was said to not be working properly in the device manager(yellow icon with excalmation mark next to device).

I removed the network card and put it in another pci slot to which the computer recognised it and installed the correct sw. a little way into the network wizard setup the computer crashed. I reset and removed the network card to see if the crashing continued, to which it did.

I tried system restore but my system keeps crashing before i can spend 25 minutes on it. when i start in safe mode i get multi(0)disk(0)partition(1)...*(more stuff appears but i cant remember it)*...

can anyone help me here, i am confused.

Thanks

Some general things to try.

HOW TO: Verify Unsigned Device Drivers in Windows XP

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows itself by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.
