XP Home Not Shutting Down

I am having a problem with my XP home system, I select shut down or restart and it gets to the last screen (light blue with the windows icon and the words "Windows is shutting down..." From there it just stays on that screen and I have to manually shut it off.

Just wondering why it does it and how I can fix it?

How does it Shutdown from Safe Mode, or if you are logged on in Normal Mode but as another user?

Are there any clues in the Event Viewer?

Removing adware & spyware

See if System Restore will get you back to a restore point before your problem with Shutdown.

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right-click your Drive icon/ Properties/ Tools/ Error Checking. Select both boxes.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.

Give the system specs?

do you have an ATI video card with the latest driver....known issues with the driver and long shutdoown time

No ATI here, but I'll check on some of that stuff and let you guys know. Its not really in my way that much just kinda gets annoying...
