Has anybody had these symptoms and do they know a workaround/update please?
I have a brand new Sony laptop (SZ3XWP/C) using XP Pro SP2 and have installed Norton AV and MS Visual Studio 6. Other software was then installed but the symptoms started at this point.
During use of VB6 the system spontaneously hibernates or goes into stand-by. There is no problem bringing the pc back into use. It also hibernates when using other programs but only rarely. It did it around 20 times today, sometimes after keying a single character, sometimes after 5 minutes of work. Leaving it switched on or off for a time before using again doesn't make a difference. Removing battery makes no difference. It isn't the same key each time and doesn't mind what speed I type.
This is a replacement laptop with one already having gone back with these symptoms. It seems odd that the replacement has the same symptoms.
I've been happily using VB6 with Win2K on laptops and desktops for years.
Any ideas or experiences anyone?

It's probably a Microsoft conspiracy to get you to start using .Net.....

You've probably already done this, but if you haven't, go into the power management feature of your laptop and check your power management strategy. Typically, you'll do things like turn off the monitor, shut down the hard drives, and go into hibernate mode after some amount of idle time, and do it differently when you are plugged in from when you're running on batteries. You should be able to disable the hibernate thing here.

If this is happening while running other programs I doubt the problem is VB related. As Bob suggested turn off hybernation entirely and see if the problem persists. If so I would say you should contact your dealer for support. I have been supporting computers a good long while and have never heard of program conflicts setting off hybernation modes.

Thanks guys - I've disabled hibernation and changed power management settings. Problem still there.

Unfortunately, I didn't solve the problem and having tried two Sony Vaio's had to send them both back. Now have a heavier, bigger and faster laptop that works!
