I have a PC with XP Pro installed which either cannot find a specific file server using Network Places or it finds it under the old domain name (no longer in use)under Network Places. Checked DNS, WINS and Host files. There no DC's on old domain. This only happens to one particular PC.

Under System Properties [winkey+Break] is the computer got the correct domain?

You could search the registry for the old domain name and delete it AFTER doing a backup of your registry.

But it sounds more sinister than that.

Can you ping the new domain controller by name and get a successful and accurate result??

can you ping the new domain controller with ping -a IpAddressOfServer and get the correct name to come back?

Also - check HOSTS file for anything entered (hard coded) for the domain server.

PC was formatted after joining the new domain. Check most settings for correct domain.

So it was formatted and joined to the new Domain?
The flushing the resolver or arp should not make any difference then.
Are there static IP's [e.g.DNS]
Does the previous domain exist in DNS?
Not sure if you require a metadata cleanup or your domain.

If you FORMATTED the computer and it was never part of the old domain, then it's something in your DNS.

Remember it's only one XP box finding this server in the old domain. Other PC's only sees the new domain. Can this be some cache entry on this specific PC?

But you said you formatted it therefore no cache.
You can do as suggested and search the registry for the old domain.
