I have setup a 2 machine network at home through a hub, no internet sharing. One running XP Pro and the other running XP Home. I’m having trouble sharing files of the XP Pro machine. I can share the CD-Rom, Zip and floppy drive of both machines plus , the printer.. Just can’t seem to get folders or hard drives to share. There are times I cannot get the Home files that I have created to share from the Pro machine.

You need to make sure you have the same usernames and passwords set up on both machines.

Turn off Simple Sharing on Windows XP Professional.

My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > Click The View Tab > Untick the Simple File Sharing box.

Now right clicking on a share and clicking properties will present you with a Sharing and Security Tab. In here make sure the username you are using on the home machine has rights to the folder.

You could also try using the Netowrk Connection Wizard.

Explain this to me a little more,

"You need to make sure you have the same usernames and passwords set up on both machines".

Identical?

Thanks

That is correct when you have a network set up like you have, you must have the identical usernames and passwords on each machine.

i.e. Machine 1

Normal LoginName = Greg
Normal Password = Palmer

Machine 2

Normal LoginName = Tek
Normal Password = Tips

You would need to create machine 1's details on machine 2 and vice versa

gpalmer, I will try this today.

bcastnet, I tried that the other day, still cannot get access to a folder on the XP Pro machine. Now when I go to the network I don't see the XP Pro machine as I did before. I still have access to the CD, Zip, and floppy drives of the Pro machine. Maybe I messed up on the directions some where.

Still looking!!
