I have a XP Pro machine that can not connect to a 2000 domain controller.

the controller has a static ip address and the XP pro has a DHCP address also collects all DNS from DHCP server.

The DHCP/DNS server is a different server then the 2000 DC, this server is also a DC.

So i have 1 DC dishing IP and DNS that the XP machines receives from who is trying to connect to the other 2000 DC.

I can log in with my user profile but when i try a basic test user running standard user privillages and no GPOs applied i can not log into it.

Can anyone help me with this problem.,

The machines can ping each other....

I suspect that your dns server doesn't contain the entry for your 2000 DC. Try using nslookup to check the domain of your 2000 DC.

Example: (where 2000dc.com is the domain name of your 2000 DC.)

c:\nslookup 2000dc.com

It should return the Ip address of all domain controllers in that domain, or it will return with "non existent domain".
