xp dos app printing problem

OK this is driving me crazy. My environment is w2k3 servers, xp pro and win98 clients. I'm trying to get rid of the 98 machines. I have a dos app that prints checks. I have a binary file that I copy to prn that will print a signature on the checks. the process is something like this.

1) In my dos app get to the point to where I hit enter to print the checks.
2) run a batch file that copies my binary file to the printer.
3) Hit enter on the dos app and I have signed checks.

On the Win98 machines it works like a champ, how ever in xp it does not. I can see the data light on the printer flash when I run the batch file, but something is happening when I hit enter in the dos app to print the checks. Any Ideas?

The printer is attached locally, and it will print the checks, just not the signature

Hi, DW

Is the printer configured to print direct to the printer?
Is the data format RAW?
Try running the DOS batch file in a separate window, close that window and then hit enter in your DOS app.
