Ok, I have two clients who cannot see two other clients.

All pcs are XP SP2
All pcs are in the same Workgroup
All have Node type = broadcast
All have IP Routing enabled
All have netbios enabled
All use DHCP for IP & DNS
All have Windows Firewall with File & Printer sharing as an exception

Client 1 can see all clients except client 4 - when she pings client 4 by name, the IP Address is returned but the request times out, likewise when she pings by IP addy.

When I run NET VIEW \\CLIENT4 from client 1, I get the error message 'System Error 53 has occured. Network path not found'

When I try and browse client 4 through 'My Network places' I get the error '\\Client4 is not accessible. You might not have permission....Contact the Administrator'

All other clients in the Workgroup can connect to client4 and client4 can connect to all clients, including Client1

No Spyware or viruses -Client 1 can connect to all other shares

Any ideas?

Thanks

try to view using this one instead

NET VIEW \\IP OF CLIENT 4 form client1,
does it work?
then you have a DHCP server problem or may be you have miss configered the firewall, or at last you use windows firewall on WINXP SP2 that messes the things up in most cases.

cheers

I tried NET VIEW \\IPAddress and it still doesnt work

I tried turning the Firewall off on both pc's - no joy

A DSL Router is allocating IP Addresses - I tried allocating Static IP's to both clients but it still didnt work

Any other ideas?

Thanks

when you tured off the firewalls did you completly power down the machines and bring them back up? did you just do a restart? or did you just try and view?

I rebooted both pc's after knocking off Firewall - no joy :(

give this a shot, it will not connect you but it will let us know if client 4 is sending out broadcasts or not.....

also, i know you cant see client4 from client1, can you see client4 from any other machines?

can client4 see any other machines? if yes, can client4 see client1

This is the strange thing - client1 one can see client4, 4 cant see 1.

All other clients can see 1. All other clients can see 4

I'll check the link out now as I'm on a different site

What is the firewall status of client 4? I have had to uninstall, reboot clients after SP 2 enabled OS firewall.
