I have (2) 16 bit programs in the Startup folder and when the computer boots up I get the error message "cant run 16-bit program" "Out of memory" errors.
It will work with only one program in the start up folder but not both. It used to run fine in windows 98 but now that we have Windows XP I cant get them both to run from the startup folder...
I have the compat. settings for Windows 95 for both apps.
Any ideas?

Thanks

Trent

how much ram do you have?? I had to double mine when i indtalled xp "blah blah blah blah blah..."-Dennis Quaid

The computer has 256 megs of ram.. I thought that should be plenty..since it just happens at startup.

Have you tried running the programs in a seperate memory space? Jennifer Sigman

Although MS claims that 2000 and XP had great virtual dos support I have had many clients that cannot upgrade from a fat system because their old programs won't run even using the compatibility wizard.

The few 16-bit apps I have run fine in XP if you put them to run in a seperate memory space. Jennifer Sigman

How can I run them is seperate memory space?

Each programm will run at the same time as long as they are both not started up from the start up folder.

Right click on the shortcut, then click on Properties. Click on Advanced, the choose "Run in Seperate Memory Space". Jennifer Sigman

Try running it in compatibilty mode. Properties/Compatibility. Nice little trick that MS has added to take advantage of older programs.

You're welcome. :) You wouldn't believe how many legacy programs I'm running on this XP machine... Jennifer Sigman
