Hey, does anyone know of a firewall that you can configure
access with the built in vpn client in XP.

The VPN client in XP will work with most firewalls, however there is usually no instructions for this so setting it up can be a pain in the butt.

If you have a particular firewall in mind, I would contact their support and ask if the XP client is supported.

Configuring it for ISA server is a piece of cake, of course.

I believe the Windows VPN port is TCP 1723...could be UDP...can't remember. My Cisco client is IPSEC over UDP. On simple firewalls or routers with built-in firewall functionality, I believe there should be something you can check in the GUI called VPN-passthrough.

I use the built-in VPN Client in Windows 98, ME, 2000, XP & 2003 as well as the VPN Client in Windows Mobile 2003, 5.0 & 6.0 to connect to Cisco IOS Routers and Cisco PIX Firewalls using both PPTP & L2TP/IPSec. It took me a while to get the configurations perfect and the client requirements (Certificates or shared-keys) but it is now a breeze.

I always wonder why so many people install 3rd party VPN clients when the Native one in Windows does the job perfectly?

Andy... I'm no "cisco" guy... but am somewhat familiar with ASDM.

Would you be willing to share what you did on the PIX and WM5 to allow a Windows Mobile 5.0 to connect using it's native VPN client?

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

ADB100 - can you post your configuration for the Windows XP client and IOS Server?
The reason so many of us use those 3rd party clients is that there's NO documentation on getting the native client to connect to anything LOL

Actually, I use Cisco VPN client because I am used to the view in the tabs as to what encryption is being used for IPSEC and IKE, what it reports as the server and client IP address, and local lan access parameters, etc.

But Cisco doesn't make a client for Windows Smartphone ( and I want to VPN in to my company server for access to my exchange, files and my VOIP system.
