After click on "play" in some of music files like "MIDI Seequence" type of file , receiving an error message :
Windows cannot find "wmplayer.exe".Make sure you typed the nome correctly......
Try to sort the problem in Tools-Option-File Types- Select all -Apply-Ok, but nothing change.Again after command 'play' on the choosen file receiving same error message.
If I like to play the file must first open Windows Media Player then can play a music.
Something is wrong ,probably in the Registry ,please help me to solve this problem.
Thanks in advance

Folder Options/ File Types (Select your file type eg MID or MIDI)/ Advanced/ (Select "Open" or "Play" under Action)/Edit, and make sure it is pointing to the correct location of Wmplayer.exe under "Application used to perform action".

Are your other music files opening WMP?

Can you open WMP by typing Wmplayer.exe in the Start Run box?

Hi linney,
-"Application used to perform action" actualy pointing to the location C:\Windows\Registered Packages\{.....
combox Use DDE is checked
-When tiping in Start-Run- wmplayer.exe , receiving the same error message and cann't open "wmplayer.exe."
-cann't play other music file like Mp3 ,alwais receiving error message "windos cannot find 'wmplayer.exe'......
One more question please: As I have now version of Windows Media Player 8.00 installed, if I change and install new version for XP 9.00 , can this problem be fixed in that way ,or not.

There is a very good chance that updating to WMP 9 may fix your problems.

The "Application used to perform action" line on the machine I checked read -

"E:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /Play "%L"

Check the "Path" Variable in Environment Variables/ System Variables. Found in System Properties/ Advanced, for this line -

%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem

Yes , only updating to WMP 9 solve the problem. Thanks for assistance and help.
