I built a system myself, and I thought it was running okay, but when I check the speed of the processor, it says XP 2400+ and then says its running at 1400. I know that this should be much higher.
I am using the Asus A7v8X-X. I am fairly certain the FSB is 266, and so that is definately set correctly in the motherboard. Do I need to change the FSB clock? Also, there is a setting in the bios which says Processor Speed, and there are 4 options (manual, 1500, 2000, 2500). The default setting is manual, and I haven't changed it from that. Can anyone help??
Thanks

Yes the FSB should be set to 133 but is obviously set to a default speed of 100.
Sometimes there is a 100/133/166 jumper switch on the motherboard, this is usually a two button on/off type and needs setting to 133 if the Asus A7V8X has one?
In the bios you set CPU to 133 (266) which would take the CPU clock speed to that middle figure (2000) you talk about.
XP2.4+ is a 266fsb CPU with DDR memory working at
266 (133 X2 DDR!)
SO you should see 133
133 Martin

Sorry, I don't fully understand.

The options for the FSB were Auto, 266, 300, 400. It was originally on Auto )I had the same problem then) so I changed it to 266. Is this the right setting? The problems remained, and so I came here.

The FSB setting should be 266
The memory should be 133 which doubles to 266 "DDR" I think your memory is set to 100 ATM "200" and thats why you are getting a low CPU setting. Martin

Strange thing there. A XP2400 is usually running at a fsb of 133 and a multiplier of 15 (15 * 133 = 2000. 2000 is the real MHz value of a XP2400). If the fsb is set to 100 the CPU should run at 15 * 100 = 1500MHz. Did you change the multiplier to 10,5 somehow? Thats the only way to get a fsb of 1400 if your sure the fsb is at 133MHz.

Do you have the latest BIOS?

Please correct me if I got something wrong.

In your bios wher is says manual, 1500, 2000, 2250 select 2000, that is the true speed of the 2400(2ghz) I built a computer using a Asus board that had the same type of settings. Each MB use differnt way to set them up. Selecting 2000 should fix your problem
