Has anyone successfully set up T1/PRI service using XO as the Service Provider. They are using a Sonus switch? They claim to be emulating 5ESS, AT&T Custom. Inbound works fine, outbound gets no D channel on local or long distance - just a wave-off. PRI is setup standard for 5ESS. No errors show up, no red light on DS1. ANY help would be appreciated.

Tom,

As I discovered in a previous life that was doing just what you did, that is, telling and asking Techs what they did, you must always remember Rule Number 1.

RULE NUMBER 1,

THEY ALL LIE

I was figuring that would be what you would find.

As a CO tech/translations engineer that has turned up 1000's of PRI's I can tell you most CO techs do not actually do the programming of their switches; it is done by a centralized grp. So when a vendor says what did you do to fix it...well we really did nothing but play on the internet, send emails to friends and such...most of the time we were just trying to make the vendor feel good by staying on the line. Most times the vendor makes a small programming mistake but because of ego won't find their mistake.

Here is a hit to make your relationship go better with a CO tech. Never say you have been in the business 30 yrs and know what you are doing...because mistakes happen.

And part two of what to do....remember you are hooking up to the CENTRAL OFFICE it is the vendor's responsiblity to configure their PBX to match the switch type they are connecting to. It makes zero sense for you to request ATT Custom settings for a NORTEL DMS or a SONUS switch. Get with the program and configure your gear to match the CO.
And start using NI2 and requesting NI2.

Most vendors that I have worked with are not very knowledgable when it comes to NI2 but it is so easy.
7 digits send TON local, 10 digits send National and make sure you delete the lead digit "1". International I do not want to see 011, send me International as the type of number and get rid of the 011. I am not going to go into table stdprtct and make a whole new dialing plan for you.

So bottom line loose the ego. And get with the times. The CO is rarely wrong. We generally copy working translations that we have litterly 500-2000 working pri ckts using.

Sorry FDM816, but the LEGEND/MAGIX, is the exception to the PRI rule, since it ONLY will work with AT&T CUSTOM for the protocol for CO switches. If you search and read thru all the PRI threads on this forum, you will see what I am talking about!

Also the other problem is who and how the PRI was ordered in the first place, and getting ALL the details for the configuration and confirmation.

I agree with you about ego, the second part is patience! Some providers are better than others...

....JIM....
