Hi- we want to define a data file format for an internal software tool, and XML would appear to be a good way of doing this. Having defined the format, we want to edit the files.

So I guess we need to define a DTD or schema, which the editor will use to guide users when editing the files.

Please can someone suggest a suitable XML editor that will allow the above? Other requirements are:
- free
- must run under Linux (Windows executable that runs in Linux under Wine might be ok), Java might be best

Cheers
John

BTW I've downloaded something that looks promising, XML Pro v2.01 ( ), and when I double-click on the .jar file, I get what looks like a splash screen.

But that's it - it just sits there, no CPU or disk activity.

Can anyone else who's using this (under Linux) tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Cheers
John

Thanks- looks like it could be a possibility.

XMLSpy is not freeware. As far as I know, it's a very expensive toy (>500$?)...
