I have been getting XMI005 error about every week or two. This is the most recent one:

XMI005 20 6 2 1 9:59:24 13/03/2012

I can not find much out about this error. If I look it up in the switch or in the system message book, it says it's critical.

"XMI0005 L A S T t
No message registers available in the idle queue. The printing this
message is disabled for one hour. Where: L = Loop or superloop number A
= Application number for this message S = Sequence field for this
message T = Type of message t = time of this message: hh:mm:ss dd/mm/yy
format

Severity: Critical"

However, if I go the Avaya website to look it up, it sends me to the Fault clearing guide and it tells me it's for information only.

XMI005 L A S T t
No message registers available in the idle queue. The printing of this
message is disabled for one hour.
L=Loop or superloop number
A=Application number for this message
S=Sequence field for this message
T=Type of message
t=time of this message: hh:mm:ss dd/mm/yy format
ACTION: Information only, no action required.

Which should I believe, and what should I be doing about it?

Check your register and buffer settings in LD 17 under PARM, and make sure you have enough of each type configured.

Otherwise, if you are only getting this once every week or two, it's not that severe a problem. I would worry if you were getting this several times a day, and you were seeing other errors as well.

Thank you Allenmac. That's pretty much what I was thinking. Have a star...

Sorry I didn't get back to you guys sooner. I've been waiting until this past weekend for the engineer to load patches and INI the system for the changes to take affect. version info below:
We have 4 switches all the same version, but this is the only one that we are getting that error on. We got another one yesterday. It is very sporatic. I got one yesterday, I may get another one this week or maybe not till next week. They aren't slamming in, so I haven't been worried about them. But it is disconcerting not knowing what is causing the issue and whether or not it could have deeper consequences.

whats on loop 20? is it single or two shelves? (20-0 and 20-1)
If it's a ipe loop, how many users on it? has something been added to 20? lot's of users? ACD agents?

or is the loop # on that message changing (ie. other loops having same message)

are you getting this message during peek busy times?

Just 20-0 and within that shelf are 2 MC-32 cards(NTVQ01BA), 1 Universal Trunk card (NT8D14CA), and the rest of the shelf is populated with digital line cards (NT8D02GA).

well, XMI messages refer to Network or Peripheral equipment.

has anything changed on that shelf? (since the messages started ?)

do you get any AUD0518 prior to the xmi005?

7.5 has a lot of memory errors, make sure you have the latest Deplist installed, there are a few new patches to deal with memory errors. (that could be affecting this, just to rule that out)

I don't know about peak hours. We haven't been doing any traffic studies at the times. But I would guess not, as there doesn't seem to be a specific time of day when they come in.

No, I have only seen it for loop 20 in this one switch.

check some of the basics:

Stat Health (ld 135)
check PRI loops
check Conf/TDS loops
Check that your PRI is running on Primary DCH not backup.

Is this the only shelf with MC32 cards in it?

All those things checked with no problems noted. As for the MC32 cards no we have 2 other shelves with one MC32 card, and one other shelf with 2 MC32 cards.
