.xlr picture - how to dissect it??

I have received a picture file with .xlr extension. I think the picture was originally created on a Mac machine, but it was forwarded to me from Microsoft Works. Nonetheless, I have been able to pull it into Word or Excel, but I now need to dissect it as if using the "Drawing" toolbar and ungrouping the pictures components. So far it appears to be 'un-groupable' and I cannot break the picture up into sections that I can move, delete, or change color. Is there any way to save this file to another format so that I can alter the way it looks????

.xlr is a MS Works file. Perhaps who sent you the file originally can send you the picture file.
