I am tasked to save an xln file from S8700 remotely. This is to be used for upgrade.
Does anybody knows the procedure?

you can ftp this file and restore to a different server without any problems but make sure the to and from server are exactly the same. We move ths file from a s8710 LAB server to a live s8700 server and there were some problems within the processes.

I dialed in remotely then go to backup but got this error,

backup: 1: Created backup temporary directory - backup continuing
backup: Performing save translation, please wait.....
backup: 40: FTP Error: connect: Connection timed out
backup: 40: FTP of backup image to anonymous at 10.3.23.94 failed -- Backup terminated for xln
Performing ERROR RECOVERY, please wait.....
..... ERROR RECOVERY COMPLETE .....

sounds like the server can't see the ftp location

what is 10.3.23.94, is this the PPP Address of your laptop?
Have you configured an FTP directory for your laptop?

I finally got it working, it was the Windows firewall on my laptop.
