xl 97 Show formulas/show results of formulas prob

I've a worksheet with some formulae referring to different cells on the same sheet, e.g. "= B52" shows the name in b52(avoids entering a persons name twice). Most of the cells work fine, and have done so for months. A few however insist on seeing the formula as text and show only the formula, not the result. This just popped up, I have no idea what has changed in those few cells. Anyone have any ideas?

Select the cells not showing correct results, go to the Format menu, Cells option and check that these cells have not been formatted as text rather than a number or general

Make sure there is no space before the "=" sign
