Hi,
I am trying to copy digital pics from my xD picture card to my hard drive via a USB2.0 xD card reader (memory adapter). I have a Mac G5 os10.
My problem is when I plug the reader into the usb port, a message appears saying "You have inserted a disk containing no volumes that Mac OSX can read. To continue with the disk inserted, click Ignore"
and three buttons, Initialize, Ignore Eject.
I have tried initializing the disk and that does not work.

Any help would be appreciated
Thank you

Did it ever work? What is the camera make & model that you're using?

That's my question - what camera model?

It sounds like the card isn't formatted with the FAT filesystem; I've never heard of a camera that used a proprietary memory card format.

Are you sure there are pictures on the card? Do you still have the camera? Can you plug the camera into the Mac directly?

Do you have the card inserted in the adaptor when you plug it into the mac? I would thank that, without nayhting to actually read, you'd get the message. Theoretically, if the card is in the adapter, there will be something to read.

Sorry I took so long to reply.
Thanks for your time.
I have an Olympus mju500. This is the first time I have tried to download using my new card reader. I have downloaded my pics with a friends card reader at work and everything was fine, but since then I tried to download pics at home on PC with my new reader and I get a message (my card is not formatted). Everything is fine with the camera program (Olympus Master), when I dwonload through the camera at home on PC (XP Pro) but I would much rather take the pics to work and store them on my mac and do what I want in Photoshop. I haven't tried to plug camera into mac directly, but I might try that, although I would have to download my master software on mac. Since writing original post I have erased the disk with erase software found on net(Aperase) and reformatted disk in camera and still no luck. The card still works fine in the camera.

From what you've described, it sounds as though your card reader is at fault, as it works with neither PC nor Mac. Can you borrow your friend's xD reader and try it instead?

On the basis that the camera connected directly to the mac will work and your borrowed reader works, you'll know which card reader to buy when you return the faulty one.

FWIW, xD support in multi-format readers appears to be uncommon and reviews I saw when buying one to work with my Fuji & iMac indicated that incompatibility could occur on the basis of xD card manufacturer.

drlex, you are absolutely right.

I borrowed my friends reader and was it worked fine.

I will be returning the card readers and hopefully recieving new ones.

Thank you all
