We have two Solaris servers, and we need to install Oracle on server2, but we need the installation screen to be displayed on server1. What I did is:
1. log on locally to server1 as root, xhost +
2. open another session locally on server1, telnet to server2, export DISPLAY=server1:0.0, then /usr/openwin/bin/ xclock, it hang there. We did not even get any error message.

But if we try the same thing on server3, it works. We need to install Oracle Application today. Please help.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Are u logging in on server 1 through it's own terminal or using some Windows machine? In case u are using windows then u need to export its(windows machine) display on server 2.
Secondly try giving admintool command on server2 and see.
If u still face any problem then reply back.....

And I have just tried to do an xinit, but I got error message

/dev/fb: no such file or directory
Graphic Adapter device /dev/fb is not of known type.

Fatal Server Error
InitOutput: error loading module for /dev/fb

I checked on server3 and found out /dev/fb is a link to some files under /devices, but there is no such link available on server2. I think this is the reason, but I don't know how to fix it. Any suggestion is appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,
/dev/fb is a link to your graphics card.If u don't see that in /devices then do the following
#touch /reconfigure
#boot -r

See if this helps.....

NavinB:
I logged on server 1 through its own terminal and than did the xhost +, then opened another session on the same terminal and telnet to server2 and export DISPLAY=server1:0.0.

I am going to try touch /reconfigure and let you know if it works.

Thank you very much for your help.

it should work if u give boot -r itself
else try the set DISPLAY=server1 :0,0
it worked for us with the same problem
