system only recognizes 3 x 1GB modules.
when i plug in the 4th module, the systems hangs at bios level.

any clues?

Straight out of the IBM Engineers Manual...

Standard: 256MB
Max: 4GB
Type: 133Mhz, ECC, SDRAM, Registered DIMMs
Slots: 4 Dual Inline

Is the memory IBM memory or Generic. Have you updated the Bios to the latest level. Do you have a raid card or additional SCSI card installed. Once you get to 4gb of memory you get all sorts of memory issues as most drivers and card BIOS's error. There are changes that need to be made to the Adaptec Bios for instance before it will work with 4gb.

Thanks for your advise, we will check all of your suggestions.
We are using nonibm modules that supose to work as 33L3326 1GB .

Hi,
Updating the BIOS to VER 1.05 helped to solve the 4GB issue,
AND now i find that the system x330-8674-41X is unstable from boot to boot.
with IBM memory modules or others, the memory reading is not consistant.
