WSUS - this computer has not reported status yet. 3

Hi,

i'm rolling out patches to a small server estate (30ish servers) using Group Policy pointing at a WSUS server.

For two boxes only, WSUS is saying "This computer has not reported status yet".

WSUS is obviously working & the GP config must be fine, as hotfixes to the 28odd servers are being rolled out as expected.

Any ideas as to what is going on with these two problematic boxes??

Were they imaged using Ghost?

have you run GPRESULT?

If that fails you can force them to reconnect and register with the WSUS server

wuauclt.exe /resetauthorization /detectnow

as Mark says if they were imaged then a couple more steps will be required.

Yes, one of the machine's was certainly Ghosted, not sure about the other, it was built many moons ago, but it's likely that it was.

I'll check out those commands & link you posted...

Check to see if the ID's in the keys below are the same if so then follow the process below.


All you have to do is stop the BITS service and the Windows Update service and then go to RUN --> regedit and find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate
and delete the following:
"PingID"
"AccountDomainSid"
"SusClientId"
then retart the two services (or restart the PC) and by the next day your mystery PCs should start showing up in WSUS.

You can also force them to register rather than waiting for them to appear.

wuauclt.exe /resetauthorization /detectnow

A bit of help from BCastner in the XP forum, he pointed to a possible solution and some playing myself eventually revealed the answer when i had a similar issue.
