Is this even the right forum for this?
I have a WSUS installed on my E drive, and it's using up a LOT of space. I read somewhere, that a standard installationen uses MAYBE 2-3 GB pr language. I have set it to download in 2 languages and have 32GB of data in my E:\WSUS\WsusContent folder.

How do I get rid of this (please no reinstall)?
What is the cause?
How can I prevent it in the future?

Go in to console and Decline everything you do not need. then check out this tool.

Download the MS WSUS server diagnostic tool on the MSWSUS site
Command I believe per the help guide
WsusDebugTool.exe /Tool:purgeUnnneededFiles

Thanks for the tool, that helped a little bit, but not enough. I'm now down to 27GB instead of 31Gb updates with 2872 updates. Still seems like a lot of space for that?!

did you remove all 64 bit updates and see if you really need all of the technologies like office 2k3 and 2k7 and .net 3.5

No I haven't, but I'm doubting that they will account for a large percentage of the updates. 31GB sounds like a lot, even taking the service packs into account .
Come on people, no WSUS users out there?

My WSUS is 21GB. I only approve English, and I only choose Install when I am ready for install, otherwise, it is only setup to Detect. It does not download until Install is chosen. You may have unused updates that have been downloaded at one time, but maybe are now set as detect or declined; but will still reside in your WSUSContect folder. I make sure I don't download any Itanium, unused OS's or unneeded 64-bit updates. We do not run Vista here so that helps as well. The more OS types you have on your network the larger your Content folder will be.

The large size is typical and I believe unavoidable in these days of 300+MB updates and service packs.

And I am a WSUS admin/user.

OK, that makes sense. I was only going by what I've read. I've expanded my drive to 50GB, so we'll see what happens. Thanks for the help so far :)
