Hi All,
i have a wss 2382 v.6046 controller want to used it to give wireless for the internet purpose, i have a flat network and i dhcp server for the default vlan, but i need to give the user a different ips than the dhcp give, i use the dhcp from the controller, i have only one AP 2330A for test purpose then i do the necessary configuration and connect the AP it stay in sold amber for all the led, i am afraid that the AP defected or it is not completable with the controller, or the reason that i turn the dhcp on the WSS although there is another scope in the same vlan can give ips.
please need help of someone had the same problem, is there any way to get it work without the need to create a new vlan for the wireless .

best regards

Hi,

You should first the uptime of the switchport on which the ap is connected. If it keeps a link for about 30 to 60 seconds you should probably check/adjust the following settings:

- is stg fast start enabled on the switchport which connects to the ap.
- is the specific vlan created on the WSS on which the AP is active.
- dhcp configured and enabled on the wss (only allows for l2 ip-addressing).
- if there is a l3 network between the wss and ap you need to configer dhcp option 43 to have the ap get its ip-address (or a DNS entry).

For testing purposes you could configer an isolated l2 vlan in which only the wss and ap is active to exclude possible interference. Have the wss and ap connected to the same physical switch. The ap should get an ip-address from the wss.
Keep in mind to use a real dhcp server for ip-addressing since the wss its dhcp service is only ment for testing/demo purposes.

Ofcourse, you could also check an additional ap to exclude a faulty ap...

Forget to say, make also sure the ap is accepted and allowed communication with your wss. You should check your alarm/events to see if the wss has received a request of the ap to connect and retrieve its configuration/images file(s).
