WSS 2.0 upgrade to 3.0

i have a virutal server running WSS 2.0, i'm trying to do an upgrade but never had any success with it.

I freeze the original, and cloned 3 copies. i am performing an in-place upgrade one by one on identical system, but each time i got a different error! is there any trick to do the upgrade? i also tried a freshly installed WSS 2.0 system but unable to upgrade to 3.0!

Depends on what the error is. I've found that it's best to run the upgrade using STSADM. The biggest issue you will run into is service account credentials. Can you post some of the errors, or the nature of the different issues?

can't remember the details of each, but looks like are datebase/sql related. one last time i got all past all 10 steps config wizard, but had "unable to get global configuration data". domain admin is the only account i use to do anything, and db is running on sqlde

i'll try STSAdm as you suggested

which order did you install the products on ?

if you are moving into a proper sql backend, then i found installing SQL server first, then Sharepoint worked,
