Does anyone have a copy of the WS4 PLATFORM that will work with RES 5.4? I have a Workstation 4 that I was having trouble with and I restored it to factory. It won't load the WS4 platform. Now I can't connect because it has the old platform software.

(I also have an older Workstation 4 but it wasn't in use and also doesn't have the latest software. I think the version was RC15.2 but I can't remember.)

There is no official platform for workstation 4's for 5.4. The workstation 4 was officially listed as no longer being support in 5.2 I think, and I know that in one version they outright disabled the workstation 4 as an install-able package, though I can't recall if that was 5.4. Oracle will no longer be supporting the older platform. They also don't really support the LX anymore; they still have some in inventory so they'll do hardware replacement on them, but they tend to refuse to do software troubleshooting on them so I imagine they will soon officially drop their support for them.

Moregelen thanks for the response. Oracle definitely dropped support, but I do have the RES4 for CAL directory in my 5.4 installation. Was trying to test upgrade from 4.9 to 5.4 as a means to to test switch to RES 5. Trying to use existing equipment.

It "works", so to speak, but the WS4RES in CAL won't load and I think it's because there is a version issue on the WS4s. The WS4s load Digital Persona and a bunch of other things before giving an error that they can't load WS4RES.

1. Reconfigure CAL with WS4Res
2. WS4 restart with WS4forcedUpdate
3. WS4 starts up re-runs CAL
4. WS4 loads runs CAL and gets "Initialization of 'WS4RES' failed"

I looked at the details and it's when it's running ChkCalVersion.exe on the WS4. I have an OLD version of CAL on the WS4. I don't have the media to load the latest CAL version on the WS4.

I was hoping someone had it laying around.

not sure if this information is helpful to you, but just upgraded two 3700 servers and associated workstations (over half are WS4) from 5.1 to 5.4 and the WS4s did upgrade as well without issue (several are in production now). Those workstations were originally 4.x and then we upgraded to 5.1 a few years ago. My point being, do you have the ability to step from 4.9 to 5.1 and then to 5.4? That is the path we took successfully with all of our WS4s.

I don't have access to anything between 4.9 and 5.4. Not available from software cloud. I'm pretty sure it's a CAL version issue, only I don't have any software that could get me the correct CAL version on the WS4.

is your CAL version 1.1.3.55 ?
that version works on my WS4s with RES 5.4

My WS4s are at 1.1.2.33. I'm very sure it's the CAL version, but I don't have the media to update CAL and the BIOS. My WS4LX is working fine.

the link below contains 1.1.3.55 for WS4 ... recommend deleting the files you have in the McrsCAL folder on the device and then copying these in then restart and reconfigure CAL. May be best to also run WCF.exe on the device as well to clear all old files and registry settings. I have had a device get stuck half way through CAL and die (sounds similar to what you're experiencing)... WCF fixed that issue for me.

Thank you, thank you. I knew it was the CAL version. I'm now at 1.1.3.55 (replaced the MrcsCal directory in the DOC). It immediately loaded WS4RES and is now starting POS Operations. Now let me see if I can get the other one to upgrade.

(For some reason, I can't use this site with my FireFox. Driving me crazy!)
