HELP!
my brothers are using xbox connected to my router
2 at a time! yikes and my pings on half life 2 counterstrike are insane when they are playing while im trying to play

now the router is in my room
is their some way to limit their bandwidth and give me more?
its a wrt54gs
they connect directly not wireless

would it be better for me to get them hubs so they can connect to the router that way... or is their a program where i can limit their bandwidth by slot connectors

its driving me nuts

any solutions helpful

I would set it up the following way.

Router>Logical Switch>XBox
Router>Logical Switch>XBox
Router>PC

Dont confuse the Logical switch with the four port switch built in the router.

Dont buy a hub for the reason a switch is about the same price and will route via layer three with the MAC address.

Its not true routing in the sense of routing but will learn the ports and their MAC addresses and will send any packet destined for a port on the same switch out that port instead of the router. This will leave you on the routers switch port closest to the internet. This should calm down the chatter on the LAN. Or you can definately seperate them from the network with a hub or switch just connected to themselves only. Good luck

Also there are linux firmwares for the router which include traffic shaping.

This however is not a job for the faint hearted so think carefully before doing it.

Google will provide several sites with firmwares.
