Hi there,
I have a fs with 512 MB and it is given as 54% free.
Summing up all files within the fs results in 32 MB.
What are probable reasons for this discrepancy?

Staw,

Well it sounds a little bit like you have an f/s corruption. I would be inclined to unmount the filesystem and fun fsck against it, it may well prove to be a i-node corruption. If fsck finds any errors fix them or run fsck -y to do this automatically.

Cheers

Correct, same was my idea and I will check it when the fs is available for dismount.

May be you have sparse files on your filesystem, may be a process opened files and erased'em, but hast not closed'em. Whenever the process end, the space will be recovered. May be you have filesystem corruption too.
I hope it works...
