I am at my wits end with this DLT40 tape drive. I ghave not been able to get it to record pat 3200,008 bytes. Stops in that spot everytime no matter which tape i use. I am trying to upgrade firmware using the writetape command from dos prompt. but get this error: write failed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Dave

Ummm.... Im not sure if you are in the correct forum.

Are you using Veritas Backup Exec?? How are you writing to the tape??

Yes I was using veritas. I was trying to upgrade the firmware on the DLT40 when i wrote that post. When i use veritas to write to the tape i get an i/o error after 320,008 bytes written. Just need to fix this prob and get backing up.
Thanks
Dave

An I/O device error typically indicates that there was a problem comunicating with the drive. When I have seen this error it has been 90% hardware fault.

Try replacing the drive (or just to test use NT backup to do a backup and see if that is sucessful)

Cheers
