I have a billing invoice form that providers have to fill out and then sign. I created a small Access database with forms/reports that enables them to enter and keep track of all their invoices and a button, when they're ready, to dump all the data into a text file and email it to me to process on my end.

Because their signature is necessary to process the invoice I've hit a brick wall. I've been trying to figure out how to add an electronic signature to my form where the provider can use their mouse to simply scribble in their signature and this signature could be dumped into a file along with all the other data.

Does anyone know if it's possible to do a signature within an Access form or have any suggestions on how to work around this by using something outside of Access?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Well, I'd imagine that so long as you can get the signature saved as an image, you can save the image file to a folder your Access database can access, and then either import the image, or else just send it along with your other data.

One option might be an ActiveX control. Someone might have already programmed one just for this purpose, but I've no direct knowledge of one.

What is the purpose of the "signature"? In my organization our Attendance sheet we "sign" is an Access program. We keep record of our time. At the end of the period there is a button we select, "signature". This opens a message box "I certify the records are correct" with Yes/No options. Select the yes option and the signature button disappears and my "signature" appears in its place. They change the font style to make it look "real".

That's an idea. Basically, you could have an image file of each person's signature, and then that get's pulled according to who is actually "signing" by clicking their check box.

That's a great idea but how do I get the signature to come across in the file along with the data so I can process it on my end?

Once the provider is finished with the invoice they will have the parent use their mouse to sign it. Then the provider will click a button and a data file with all the invoice data and the signature needs sent to me so I can process the data and print a hard copy of it on file (showing the signature).

I won't have all the parent's signatures to add to the form on my end especially when a new parent starts with a provider. For state auditor purposes I couldn't add them on my end anyway. There has to be a way to export the signature into some kind of file so I can then import it on my end and the signature will show on my database form.

If you must have an electronic representation of your customers signature you have a long way to go, starting with security.
A signature can be produced and saved in several formats. I don’t believe you want to store them. Many of your customers won’t give that to you. Many won’t be comfortable with the file on their computer.
With what I described the program took my “name” Bubba100 and created my “signature” Bubba100. Sorry I worte this in Word and copied it over, lost the formatting and font differences.

You could talk with the state auditor and find what would be acceptable for them.

Hmm, so what bubba's situation is, it sounds like is something like this:

[ol][li]A font is created based on your handwriting.[/li]
[li]Next, that font is assigned to the user's machine, AND the recipients machine - or basically anyone who might need it.[/li]
[li]So whenever a person "signs" or checks the "sign" box, then their username is copied, and entered with their personal font.[/li][/ol]

I believe there are businesses who offer this as a service, and there might be software for doing it, but I do not recall for sure.

SeeThru, that's already been mentioned, and as bubba said, it's probably not the best idea, security-wise.
