I have a new Win2K SBS server with Adaptec 2100S RAID 5 and Windows SP2. Under Hardware > Device Manager > Disk Drives > Properties Write Cache is enabled. When I click to disable write caching the setting does not stay persistent. This bug is documented in MS article Q290757 and I applied their hotfix but it still will not let me disable it.

The hotfix applies the following files:
GMT-UTC Date Time Version Size File name
-------------------------------------------------------
16-Nov-2001 17:23 5.0.2195.4643 34,416 Classpnp.sys
14-Dec-2001 22:12 5.0.2195.4771 29,968 Disk.sys

When I check the files under C:\winnt\systems32\drivers the files have the proper dates but in the Device Manager GUI Driver details says the driver date is 11/14/1999 and version 5.0.2183.1 and file version 5.00.2195.4771. The file version is correct but the driver date, I would think, should be 12/14/2001.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Regards.

I'm having the same problem. Apparently it has been fixed by SP3, but I've apllied SP3 and there was no change. I'll be looking into this problem, and if I get a break I'll get back to you. Hope you do the same...
