Anybody still use Worldmail? I still do and have a nagging issue. Over the last few months the server stops every couple of days with "SMTPD.EXE access violation 0xc0000005 at address 0x0042e0d7". I have seen this discussed in archive mail lists, but no solution is presented. Anybody ever solve this problem, and do you remember the solution. The dicussions I have seen are more than 2 years old. I contacted Eudora and they did not have a fix.

Specs on the server:
NT 4.0 SP6a
Eudora Worldmail 2.0
McAfee Webshield (email virus scanning)
McAfee ASAP (virus scanner for the server itself)
512mb ram
2.8 ghz Pentium 4
40Gb Broken in to 2 partitions c: and e: with mailboxes on e:

What stops? OS freezes? SMTP stops? When did this start? What errors are in event viewer?

Matt J.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

The SMTPD.EXE service stops with the error "SMTPD.EXE access violation 0xc0000005 at address 0x0042e0d7" in Dr Watson. No error shows in the event viewer.

This has happened for about 3 months now. At times I will find the SMTPD service consuming 100% cpu time and large amounts of memory although, I have never seen it crash while in this state.

Have you looked at the worldmail logs at the times of the crash? If you go to view the active connections at any given time, does the activity look normal, excessive?

Thats the wierd part. The logs look completey normal. I have rebuilt the server from scratch. Still the issue persists.

Hi:

We are seeing this too.

There are also a couple of weird things that are causing raised eyebrows:

1. Event log gives me a Critical Error that says:
"The description for Event ID(0) in Source (ISOCOR.IDS) could not be found. It contains the following insertion string(s): ISOCOR.IDS error: 0, Eudora Directory Service Started"
Now this may be normal, since we've never had to look at the logs before.

2. In our SERVER CURRENT CONNECTIONS on WM, we noticed there were quite a few OUTGOING ones from IPs that tracerted to Russia, Taiwan etc. Some of these were about 5 days old. There were also a bunch of outgoing messages (about 5 days old) waiting to be sent - none from anyone at our office. The only way to remove the connections was to reboot. (MATT: Are you seeing any of this on your end??)

Didn't start till about a month ago.... and does EXACTLY what MattJurado said happens on his server.

CONFUSED.... ???
