A freind of mine just setup a 2000 Server with internet access, with a hub and router (just 4 workstations). the users have all been setup on the server but the workstations do not recognize the server, the nic cards are all configures so is TCPIP, what else can she check??, I don't know to much about Server 2000

check their IP addresses, subnet masks and default gatways to make sure they are correct

If the Server has only one lan interface (Nic card) then your friend is probably not using the server as a Remote Access Server or running ICS - Is this true?

If this is true, then all traffic for the internet should be sent directly from the clients to the router. And as mentioned in the previous post - check the IP addressess and make sure the default gateway on the client machines point to the routers internal lan interface.

Do you know if your friend is configuring static ip addresses on the clients or by chance have they configured the Server as a DHCP server to provide addresses to the Clients.

To really help - we need more information about the topology and current configuration.

Thanks for all of the reply's it was an ip address issue we got it working
