Hello All,

I have a client with a peer-to-peer network environment (mixed windows and linux). I want to setup a DDNS service on their windows 2000 server to have workstations register themselves against it (for local name resolution).

The DHCP server is a Linux based device.

Currently, I have the DNS environment setup with a zone created matching their local DNS suffix (which is advertised by their DHCP server).

When I have a Windows XP client boot, and retrieve its IP address, it is not currently registering its name on the DNS server.

The client is configured to register connection addresses in DNS.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

RUSTER.

It's possible your DHCP server does not support automatic registration in DNS. Your best bet would be to either use Windows DHCP or set the client's TCP/IP option to register in DNS

The client is set to register to DNS. Have not tried yet using Windows 2000 as DHCP server, however at present that is not an option.

Do you know if Active Directory is required for DDNS to function?

Rui.

have you appended the DNS suffix to the hostname? DDNS does not require AD in ordert to function.
