Working with the Symbols

How can I change the properties of the symbols that already come with Illustrator. Is there any way to change the color, transparency, etc?

Hi 11design,

Pull a symbol to the artboard.

Next in the symbol palette at the bottom you have some icons. The third from the left is a little chain. With the symbol selected click on it.

Now the symbol on your artboard isn't linked anymore to the symbol in your symbol palette and it can be changed in anyway you want.

To recreate a symbol again after your changes just select it and pull it in your symbol palette
