I have irreplaceable audio that is very poor quality. What is the best way to get the best from it?

The level of the audio is very low, so I have to increase it a lot, which adds noise. What is the best way to clean it up as much as possible?

And how do I get rid of really loud 1 frame long "pop" sounds?

I am using Premiere Pro.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

(Are there professionals who could do this better? How much do they charge?)

render out the audio track as its own seperate .wav file .
Get a program that can manipulat audio streams (ie SoundForce, Goldwave). You can then paly with the settings in those prograams to fix your problems.

Then create a project in Premier and silence the "old" audio track of your vidoe, and import the new one.

Both Sound Forge and Goldwave can operate directly on AVI files, but only Sound Forge can save in AVI format after edit. Goldwave only saves in WAV.

Goldwave is around $50 wheras Sound Forge plus its Noise Reduction plugin costs several hundred dollars. Take your pick!

If your using 6.5 I would use adobe audition formerly known as cool edit. It is comes with a sweet of plugins and filters some specific to your case that might help are those that can remove hissing and pops. Then it has very in depth audio filters that can take out and bring up very specific bands or frequencies for instance its 30 band dynamic equalizer could come in handy. It is now an adobe product so it operates smoothly with premiere.
