Hello,

What do I need to start working with Javascript?

Thanks.

Notepad?

Ignorance of certain subjects is a great part of wisdom

Aside from a text editor (for composing your scripts), and a browser (for seeing them work) you don't need anything else, no compilers or run-time DLL files etc.

However, a good tutorial is always handy. Head on over to for a good introduction to javascript.

And I would add a good debugger too.

For IE and Windows Script Host I would recommend the Microsoft Script Editor (a part of MS Office, you need to explicitly select HTML editting during installation in order to have it installed). Use the debugger javascript keyword to invoke it. You can also run it as a standalone tool. For Office 2003 it usually resides in Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\MSE7.EXE

For FireFox I would recommend the free FireBug add-on.

Hope this helps.
