picard144 - I see that you have started 6 threads, and have not said thank you once, and have yet to indicate that any post has been helpful.
Since you haven't used the forum much, you may not be aware that Tek-Tips is a forum by and between professionals, it is not a tech support site, and its a good practice to share as you can with other members of the forum and to show professional courtesy when warranted.
That being said, I suggest that you take a look at faq222-2244. It will help you research your question before posting.
A quick search on the site, using 'registry' and 'api' found several good answers to your question including thread222-493140

Johnwm - I am sorry if I have failed to say thank you for any assistance that I have received on the site. I was under the impression that the thanks was in helping other people with answers to their questions whenever I can and I have on several occasions. That having being said... I want to thank you and ADoozer for your responses. I have not tried them yet, but I am sure that they will be of great value.
Oh, and by the way, I am an IT Professional, I own and operaate my own Computer firm. I use this site very infrequently but when I do; it's because a very wise man once told me "It's okay if you don't know something, nobody expects you to know everything. The key to success is not knowing all the answers...but knowing where to find them."

Johnwm - Just wanted to mention also that I did want to thank one person, and I thought that by clicking on the name of the user, it would allow me to send that person an e-mail, but it doesn't work like that...it just shows you their profile. But ..by you directing this comment to me I decided to do as you did and just add the thank you message to the thread. Thanks !!

As you point out clicking on the name brings you to the members profile, which is where I noticed that you appear to have made no posts in anyone elses threads.
