WorkCentre Communication Failure

Our WorkCentre 7665 has been exhibiting some odd behavior. At least once a day it will throw up a firewire communications failure message on the screen. The "accepted" solution from Xerox is to simply reboot the machine. This does work, but it is nothing more than a workaround, as opposed to an actual solution. Any ideas on how to remedy this error? I am pretty sure that the firmware on our unit is up to date, despite the fact that Xerox doesn't make it very easy to find out the most current firmware versions. Also, both the firewire and USB cables are also in the correct spots, as per the 7665 manual.

Thanks in advance,
Chris

this sounds like a timing issue. The file may be sent at a higher rate than printer can process. It may result in an error at the FW port. Is it a particular app that this happens? Is it the same time every day it happens?
Is your print server on a UPS? Power cycle may cut the connection. The port itself may be going bad.

Thanks for the reply. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to causing the error. I have even noticed that it has happened with no activity/jobs processing on the unit. I do agree that it is a timing issue; there was a patch a few months ago that was supposed to fix this, but really hasn't made any noticeable difference. According to that firmware update, it was basically supposed extend the window of time that the unit listened on the communications port.

The power cycle suggestion is a good idea, I hadn't initially thought to check that, but will investigate. I may also replace the cable on the unit to see if that is part of the problem.

Hi.My 7665 is new. From the beggining I have problem "Host to Host USB failure.Comunnication error."
I done and check everythink by book.Help

I have a xerox workcentre pro 32c and it boots up but says there is a communication error and no matter what I do it will not let me use it. I can log onto it in IE so I know it is seen on the network but it will not let me use it at all. I don't know what to try. The communication cable is a usb by usb. I tried replacing it with a file transfer cable but it must not be the right thing. Does anyone have any reply for this?

15011973: Most newer printers use USB 2.0, but your PC may not have a 2.0 port. Or, yout port has the problem.

CM,your comm hub may be an issue. can you hook up direct to PC/printer and see if it works. If so, hub/router is the issue.
