Hi I’m curious about work-at-home companies.
Has any one worked at one of these kinds of companies (like HomeCS)?
What are you’re experiences with them like?

I know I would rather work at a place where I would have a mentor to talk to.
Do these places have people you can talk to for advice if you need help?

Personally, I’m rather skeptical about them, but thought I would ask.

I think I’d rather work in an office myself, but if I can get some work experience
to put on my resume it might be good.

Don't these companies want to you put up a bunch of money up front in exchange for the contacts to the real companies?

I think some companies do have you pay a member ship fee.
I wonder if this stuff is a scam, so I'm asking if any one
has worked for companies like this?

As a general rule, if they want money up front, it's a scam. This is the cyberage counterpart to stuffing envelopes "at home, in your spare time". Of course, you have to buy materials at an exhorbitant fee and your work will always be rejected for some small flaw, and your check will get magically lost in the mail, but hey - you can get rich working at home, in your spare time!

Real agencies charge the company not the worker. In actuality they charge the company your rate plus an administrative fee.

If you are asked for money don't do it. If you don't get paided and you feel it is really dodgy with hold future work. If you don't get paid goto the sites like to get information on your rights...go there before and learn your rights would be better.

Ditto on previous posts. Unless you set up the business yourself, or it is an actual paid position in a company to telecommute (AT&T account reps work this way in rural areas), then it should be handled like a diseased rat -- not at all.

I was going to apply at one, checked them out there and found the reports there soured me to the idea.

And yes, I agree, if they ask for $$, it's a scam!

Its either a scam (most probably) or a MLM (multi-level marketing) company.

Most of those rely on you making your money by signing up other people and then you get a share of whatever they contribute. If what they (and you) contribute is just a fee to join (i.e. there's no product) then its a pyramid scheme and its illegal. If there is some product (cleaning products, health products, etc.) then it may not be illegal but the usual statistic is that you need to sign up 100 - 300 people to get one that stays with it ... and you need at least four people (400-1,200!) under you to make much money. They of course need to sign up their own group of 400-1,200 to do well.

Mathematically speaking, the lottery is not looking too bad compared to these things.

Hey if I start a business that consists of picking up odd coins off the street. Perhaps after a month I have "earned"..um.... say £2 ... I could say "I've started earning £10K" .... my £2 is the start of that £10K...

Back when I tried selling Tupperware they gave me testomonials like that... Pampered Chef too... They are legit, but if you check the fine print I think they have something there that says something like "results not typical" kind of like with those diet shakes and pills... some people get rich quick... the majority pour more $$ in than they get out of it... On the other hand, I think I was my own best customer! :p

Everyone makes £10k, only it's an average (meaning that amount of money isn't evenly distributed!)
