Wordpad XP vs Wordpad 98 - too "wimpy", need *.doc option 1

I can save a document in Wordpad 98 but not in XP Wordpad with a *.doc extension properly.

What is the best way to do this?

I realize MS is avoiding *.doc for macro virus reasons, but the formatting in *.rtf is terrible.

Margins simply don't work well in *.rtf documents or XP Wordpad *.doc documents.

I use Wordpad for documentation because many Legal Users use Corel instead of MS Word. I like to keep this documentation in a tech directory for review & billing.

Do a Save As...
rather than Save.

I only note that using the .DOC format is a possible source of confusion down the road. .DOC is treated as a proprietary format by Microsoft, and is not a "universal" format such as .txt or .rtf

Problem with that - it won't fix the formatting of paragraphs. Wordwrap fails for whatever reason. In Win 2000, 98, etc. except XP it wordwraps just fine.

if you do some searching on the 98 cd you might find notepad, i just made a copy to A:\ so when i do install xp again i just move the file

Also, there are some nice freeware and shareware alternatives to wordpad and notepad.

Thanks everyone. Editpad Lite seems reasonable. Notepad is too puny. [Very interesting info.]

Does Edipad Lite have some formatting functions - paste images into doc; do bold - underline - italic?

I use CWORDPAD from CETUS. It allows default font settings! Also get CNOTEPAD from same. Best thing I ever did
