Hi,

I have a Word 97 document containing tables, many of which spread across page breaks.

Some tables print correctly. For others, however, the vertical table borders extend over the footer to the bottom of the page.

Has anyone come across this and is there a known fix?

The problem occurs running Word 97 SR2 on both Windows98 and NT4 SP6a, printing to HP8100 and Xerox DC440 printers.

Thanks in advance
Rich

Is the table (or cell) set to to "Allow row to break accross pages"? By default Word will let you do that. I always uncheck it.
Also, I'd check the page settings and see if you margins are overlapping. Ensure the settings are for Whole Document. _____________

Thanks Cliff,

In answer to your questions:
The table is not set to "Allow row to break across pages"
The margins are not overlapping.

Additional information:
The table splits across pages correctly in page layout view and in print preview. There is only a problem when it is printed.
The table text does not overlap the footer - it is just the vertical lines that extend further than they should.
I tried to set "Allow row to break across pages", but got the message "Cannot allow this row to break across pages because of vertical or merged cells". I have merged cells so that may be a clue to what is going on.

Any further thoughts?
Thanks

Hmm,
Sometimes I give up because the document gets corrupted in ways you can never find. In that case you'd need to start again.

The vertical lines you speak of, I presume they are not Word Art correct? Just simple table borders?

You can try turning on the Show/Hide to see some of the code, but Word embeds so much more than that in the documents that the end user can't see. I often receive Word documents that I need to copy the text into a database for our Intranet. Often there is code that you can't see that causes trouble.

If you do need to start again, I recommend you truly start again and don't copy and past anything from the old document.

I once had an Excel file that would not add the numbers of two cells. I even sent the file to one of our systems analysts to see if it was a problem with my install of Excel. It wasn't. I redid the simple spread sheet using a whole new file and it worked fine, but if I tried to copy and paste I got the same error.

The lines are simple table borders, not word art.

Starting again is not a viable option as the document is 130 pages and the deadline is....tomorrow!

I may have to find an alternative.

Thanks
