Word XP Document Recovery Error 1

Hi All,

I have an computer running Windows XP SP2 with MS office XP Pro. I just setup a new user this morning and when I try to open word I immediately receive an error that says Word encountered a problem and must close.

There is a checkbox that says "recover my work and restart word," and I'm able to choose send an error report or Don't send report.

If I leave that checked and hit don't send it gives me a "Word is currently recovering your document". Again, another error pops up that says "Word failed to start correctly last time. Start in safe mode?"

The program will open in safe mode, but if I select NO the program simply shuts down.

It seems like I get stuck in a loop if I try to recover the documents.

I've tried running a detect and repair, but to no avail.

Any thoughts?

Which antivirus r u running?

Trend Micro Office Scan 7. I don't think it should have anything to do with that. I've done the setup a million times. But hopefully you know something I don't

suggest deleting normal.dot. since it didn't work from start, that's a good bet.

MS has problems with McAfee and produces that kind of error. that's why i asked about antivirus.
