Word wants to Find underlined items. Any way to turn it off?

Greetings,

Many times when I do a Find search, Word decides to look for those items that are underlined. I have to tell it No Formatting about half the time.

Is there any way to get Word to behave? It’s annoying.

Thanks!

Find and Replace should always be reset to "No Formatting" when Word starts up. It does, however, remember what has happened in your Word session. If you aren't looking for underlines yourself then maybe you have some code running (in an AddIn perhaps) which leaves it set.

Enjoy,
Tony

Yes, Word (2003 BTW) is pretty good at remembering things. However, since I very rarely want to do anything other than just Find, I don’t know where it gets the idea I want to specify formatting.

No add-ins. The only non-stock items are toolbar buttons and menu items for PDFMaker 7.0.

This may be a clue. I haven’t been able to find anybody in the office who’s seen this problem. BUT, I haven’t been able to find anybody in the office who uses shortcut keys, either. I exclusively access it through Ctrl+F.

If you think Ctrl+F may be the problem then the question is: do you still have the problem if you use the menu? I suspect you do and I think the fact that it only happens half the time is significant - can you think of anything you may have done before it when it occurs?

Enjoy,
Tony
