Hi Everyone
I have a bit of a strange problem. If I open Word 2003 on its own it opens fine very quickly. If I do file - open and select a document from the desktop it opens quick. If I close Word and double click on a document on the desktop it takes a good 30 seconds to open. I have done a detect and repair but that did not work. I created a small test document but it does the same thing. Please help

Thanks

Two things I would look for:

OSA - Is it possible that you disabled the Office Startup Assistant? This pre-caches many of the Office support files, so that the main apps will load quickly. When you open Word first and then open the file, you're giving the system the time to catch up with that loading. The following Microsoft KB has info on OSA:

Printers - Word documents save the printer settings in the file itself. It's possible that, if the printer assigned to a file is a network printer, that it might be delayed trying to both connect to the printer and/or setup the display of the file contents to match how it will print, especially if the printer is offline. Try another test and make the printer one of your local ones and see if that makes a difference.

Does Word open normally? By that I mean if you open Word to a default blank document, how does it compatre to opening a small test document opened from the Desktop when Word is closed?

Thank it is sorted now like stated above it was a problem with a printer that was intalled but not connected so when word opened it spent a while looking for it. Removing this printer sorted it out.

Thanks for all the help
