When I reboot my machine Word shows in the Processes list of Task manager. I noticed this just a few days ago. There's nothing in the Startup folder to make it open.

Can anyone please tell me how to prevent this?

thanks

Do you have Outlook installed on your machine? If so is Word set as your default email editor within Outlook? If it is then Word would show as 'winword' in 'task manager - processes'. You would need to change this setting in Outlook to prevent it starting Word.

Thanks for the reply, aich69, but I use "Microsoft Outlook Rich Text" as the format and the check box to "Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages" is not checked.

Try running AutoRuns on your machine and see if you can locate how (and from where) it is starting.

Autoruns for Windows v9.57

"See what programs are configured to startup automatically when your system boots and you login. Autoruns also shows you the full list of Registry and file locations where applications can configure auto-start settings".

I just did a "Detect and Repair" and that appears to have fixed it.

I just noticed your reply linney. I'll download that and see what it does...looks useful. THANKS
